Primary Suite Renovation

Manchester by the Sea, MA

The new owners of this classic summer cottage on Boston’s North Shore wanted to figure out a better way to utilize the second floor bedrooms.  The best light and views were from the smallest room, and none of the existing bedrooms could accommodate the “his and hers” bathrooms and closets that the owners wanted.  Ultimately, the solution lay in removing two charming but awkward back-to-back fireplaces and combining two bedrooms together.  A his and hers baths, along with closets in the hall, fell into place easily.

Other modifications helped modernize the otherwise long and dark hall.  The room at the top of the staircase was opened up to create a sitting area with a small wet bar.  The bedrooms, bathrooms, and laundry on the far end of the house remained, but flow and storage were improved, and both bathrooms received a facelift.
