Brookline Kitchen

This house in Brookline was completely transformed in this renovation. The small kitchen and large dining area were combined to create on large family eating and dining area, with improved access to the main living space as well. CTA worked with the owner to determine the most effective use of space for them; it was clear that a large common kitchen for the family would be used significantly more frequently than a formal dining room, and they elected to clear furniture out and rent a table for the one or two large family gatherings they may ever host. While a formal dining area wasn’t important, sitting at a table, rather than at a counter, was, so the center island includes a worktop counter as well as a lower table area. The owners also wanted a central desk workspace, which is tucked into an existing bay window; a printer and file area is adjacent to a large pantry and storage area. The tiny downstairs bathroom was expanded, the Living Room streamlined with a new fireplace surround and removal of heavy decorative beams on the ceiling. Upstairs, where three bedrooms had shared one bathroom, a small office was turned into a new Master Bath.                        Photos by Nat Rea
